Fortunately the golden dots have held out better! Anyway here's a picture of the top I've made with it:</div><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1H2dY6h9TkY/X0Js1QNc-II/AAAAAAAADjs/x0iWuXavD2c6EvznrvP2LKgVH5VC3E_dwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1021/20200823_161502.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1021" data-original-width="918" height="328" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1H2dY6h9TkY/X0Js1QNc-II/AAAAAAAADjs/x0iWuXavD2c6EvznrvP2LKgVH5VC3E_dwCLcBGAsYHQ/w294-h328/20200823_161502.jpg" width="294" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's a pattern I've used many times but since I hadn't sewed with it for a long time I made a little mistake and had to add a patch of fabric along the shoulder seam, at the front :( A close-up of the front pleats and stand collar, the patched up area is not too obvious, phew:</div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vOy8OxpaHZc/X0JtE8ltjAI/AAAAAAAADj8/EBnhgfJEYzcsQ8Fy3-MFXQqcsqorpMixgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1632/20200823_161606.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="918" data-original-width="1632" height="184" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vOy8OxpaHZc/X0JtE8ltjAI/AAAAAAAADj8/EBnhgfJEYzcsQ8Fy3-MFXQqcsqorpMixgCLcBGAsYHQ/w328-h184/20200823_161606.jpg" width="328" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For the second make, let me tell you that you're about to witness a thing of pure beauty, so try not to shout with delight if you're looking at this in public:</div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GFB9twE-dqc/X0Js83N-SRI/AAAAAAAADj0/hmilOKMvqDU52ZPdZ5atTATTA-JCbwxxwCLcBGAsYHQ/s862/20200823_161848.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="538" data-original-width="862" height="204" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GFB9twE-dqc/X0Js83N-SRI/AAAAAAAADj0/hmilOKMvqDU52ZPdZ5atTATTA-JCbwxxwCLcBGAsYHQ/w328-h204/20200823_161848.jpg" width="328" /></a></div>Yes, it is one third of Dora's body! And next to it a top made with awesome Jerry printed fabric I found at a local shop. It's my favourite top pattern, I've made it in dozens of different fabrics but this one is the cutest! I mean look at that little guy:<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oMolYfSM6ic/X0JtSrI5_mI/AAAAAAAADkE/lEeO7098sjYpEnDAFB9qaTLmegLoJjEFgCLcBGAsYHQ/s980/20200823_161940.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="980" data-original-width="551" height="328" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oMolYfSM6ic/X0JtSrI5_mI/AAAAAAAADkE/lEeO7098sjYpEnDAFB9qaTLmegLoJjEFgCLcBGAsYHQ/w184-h328/20200823_161940.jpg" width="184" /></a></div><p></p><p>Aww I love this top! Pattern 1 comes from this book:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yh483qJMFlY/XwxWIdLvlqI/AAAAAAAADgs/yWV7i97AhtABECsWf4oVg5oN6k8206QagCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_162913.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="682" data-original-width="529" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yh483qJMFlY/XwxWIdLvlqI/AAAAAAAADgs/yWV7i97AhtABECsWf4oVg5oN6k8206QagCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_162913.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
It's a dress pattern book and I chose the gorgeous M dress for my project:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7Jz5HpaVeEs/XwxWK_v4peI/AAAAAAAADgw/RQWWegiMEGcFG8c9kOWxlFXW_I_zMX_gQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_162902.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1258" data-original-width="735" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7Jz5HpaVeEs/XwxWK_v4peI/AAAAAAAADgw/RQWWegiMEGcFG8c9kOWxlFXW_I_zMX_gQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_162902.jpg" width="186" /></a></div>
<br />
It had been a loooong time since I had last made a garment with a square neckline and I LOVE the ruffles on the sleeves so I turned the dress into this top:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sV_n-2qG-0g/XwxWL3C0tDI/AAAAAAAADg0/HIR_diUjwb8pXOIsfgxpe4Yx3hlvw4HkACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_154016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="507" data-original-width="567" height="286" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sV_n-2qG-0g/XwxWL3C0tDI/AAAAAAAADg0/HIR_diUjwb8pXOIsfgxpe4Yx3hlvw4HkACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_154016.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Look at this amazing fabric! The print is beautiful animals in toile de Jouy style, it's cotton, it's 6€ a metre at a local shop that's 50 metres from my den and it's allowed me to live my Marie Antoinette opulent gown fantasy while still being able to walk / work / go shopping etc. since I can wear the top with jeans.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z-MJt-h_rhs/XwxWUNG5vRI/AAAAAAAADg4/Sk1TeDKgdREqUovizQBjiS9hM11kFfh1QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_154044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z-MJt-h_rhs/XwxWUNG5vRI/AAAAAAAADg4/Sk1TeDKgdREqUovizQBjiS9hM11kFfh1QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_154044.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kr0oh4G9_yM/XwxWVWEUFMI/AAAAAAAADg8/RFHYVvJ_lQYZHenK_ccfRkwGPjwDX0edwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_154104.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kr0oh4G9_yM/XwxWVWEUFMI/AAAAAAAADg8/RFHYVvJ_lQYZHenK_ccfRkwGPjwDX0edwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_154104.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Yummy sleeves ruffles</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--L7H_t7-P5k/XwxWVk5Yi7I/AAAAAAAADhA/yHJMuKB_EkYwlt3EKJIQFp64Lvkv58yIQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_154113.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--L7H_t7-P5k/XwxWVk5Yi7I/AAAAAAAADhA/yHJMuKB_EkYwlt3EKJIQFp64Lvkv58yIQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_154113.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hemmed the top with seam binding ribbon, I'm using this technique more and more because it's easy, quick, it gives a clean finish and it's very practical when you don't have much allowance.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now for top 2, I found the pattern in an old Pochée magazine:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mFGPT9s_MP0/XwxaV2f9-cI/AAAAAAAADhY/C28fUxZOpqci6Qq_zIqP_Krv6VPzyGWhQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_162918.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="695" data-original-width="540" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mFGPT9s_MP0/XwxaV2f9-cI/AAAAAAAADhY/C28fUxZOpqci6Qq_zIqP_Krv6VPzyGWhQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_162918.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
It's a raglan sleeve peasant blouse with a slit in the front and a gathered neckline that's sewn in place with a ribbon that ties in the front:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gpxnO0E3bys/Xwxad-04iOI/AAAAAAAADhg/GzyHpb1qxTUYavcPs5jl2TFID3BemTZ1QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_162839.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gpxnO0E3bys/Xwxad-04iOI/AAAAAAAADhg/GzyHpb1qxTUYavcPs5jl2TFID3BemTZ1QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_162839.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
I was quite sure this would turn out nice but I still added 2 cm to heighten the pattern pieces because they looked fairly small to me and I didn' t want my back and arms to be squashed in. I also cut the front in two pieces so I wouldn't have to make a slit -that's how lazy I've become- and I actually used elastic that I threaded in the piece of ribbon sewn around to gather the neckline. I sewed each end of the elastic so it wouldn't move and added mock ties. And I didn't change the sleeves' hem, except I gathered them maybe tighter than per instructions before finishing them with bias. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qQ-w519We1g/XwxacnWK7fI/AAAAAAAADhc/argAJcrZ_swExhg7hCXdCJ3KK6uvZS-ZQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_155143.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="551" data-original-width="573" height="307" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qQ-w519We1g/XwxacnWK7fI/AAAAAAAADhc/argAJcrZ_swExhg7hCXdCJ3KK6uvZS-ZQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_155143.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TjSEIt-MHls/Xwxae8GN2OI/AAAAAAAADhk/9ayYWILIA-UdFs27DY48tNe_Uvh6jJBhQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_155158.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TjSEIt-MHls/Xwxae8GN2OI/AAAAAAAADhk/9ayYWILIA-UdFs27DY48tNe_Uvh6jJBhQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_155158.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IxcglH_0q-M/Xwxaf3KNiXI/AAAAAAAADho/RTCCvyUlSmwROC6Ni6aV-FwLNvivYIbYQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200713_155203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IxcglH_0q-M/Xwxaf3KNiXI/AAAAAAAADho/RTCCvyUlSmwROC6Ni6aV-FwLNvivYIbYQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200713_155203.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And yes this print is called "Ouistiti", it's so cute with those little monkeys holding on colourful palms! It's from the same local shop as the previous fabric, it's also cotton and 6€ a metre. Mine has an orange background but my mum bought some in white and I'm already envious of it, she wants me to make something with it for her but I may pretend I didn't understand and thought she wanted me to have it...;)</div>

Sorry I know the current virus epidemic is not something funny but the unexpected consequence is that I cannot go to work until further notice and since I'm a civil servant I still get a salary. A few years back I quit my carefree lifestyle to become a state teacher because I felt the need to be financially safe but I must say that I've been utterly depressed and sad ever since and those few free days are a nice reminder of past happier times :)<br />
Anyway let's have a look at projects I've made, worn and hadn't had time to post about, shall we? First this green acrylic fur coat that I brought to my winter trip to Taïwan - it's been five times and I LOVE this country more and more! Also the weather isn't that cold but this year temperatures were around 15 degrees celsius so I was happy I had my little coat. It's a raglan sleeve, boxy shape from a sewing magazine called "Couture actuelle" in French:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VSuMx2pVFXk/XnOzvY0J2QI/AAAAAAAADdU/jc_lEMlboZ4RkNrUP_3Rllqfb_w106wJgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/patron33.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="286" data-original-width="209" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VSuMx2pVFXk/XnOzvY0J2QI/AAAAAAAADdU/jc_lEMlboZ4RkNrUP_3Rllqfb_w106wJgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/patron33.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's my version, the "fur" is really cheap but it looks okay IMO:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oUCYWDPPWTQ/XnOz1It9VYI/AAAAAAAADdY/1L9xqQJyI6M0Yxs5oRbhFTfwcOKyNnYPgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20191208_133450-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1265" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oUCYWDPPWTQ/XnOz1It9VYI/AAAAAAAADdY/1L9xqQJyI6M0Yxs5oRbhFTfwcOKyNnYPgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20191208_133450-1.jpg" width="253" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Lol of course I'm joking, the fur is acrylic too but I thought it looked just like her and was obsessed with making myself a garment out of it! This sweater also has raglan sleeves -it's easier to sew for me because it doesn't require any alterations for my rounded back and forward shoulders- and a little standing collar, the pattern is from some old German sewing magazine from my mum's archives and I wore this thing almost everyday, it's super comfortable and warm!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For something a little more recent I've just finished this periwinkle blue top, the fabric is light lawn and the pattern is from the February 2015 Burdastyle magazine:</div>

I had to make a lot of alterations for the yoke to fit and ended making the front and back yokes in one piece instead of three -the pattern has two side pieces and one middle one for them- and I'm quite happy with the result, it doesn't creep up and back when I move around which is my main goal when I sew something with a top part. It looks a bit kitsch, I call it my Gospel top but it's really nice worn, it has a very 60's feel and I'll probably make a few more with some beautiful rayon fabrics I've been hoarding.Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-36418738762288583112019-11-14T02:59:00.000-08:002019-11-14T02:59:40.132-08:00A few makes Guess what ? I've been super busy with work and though I've managed to find a little time to sew I have definitely not had enough to blog about my makes. But today I've got the afternoon off so here are two garments I made a few weeks ago and that I have already worn <i>a lot -</i>like twice a week!<br />
The first one is a very simple skirt with elasticated waist: it's from an old Japanese book of mine and you just trace a trapeze as below to get the pattern for the half front and back pieces + you draw a 15 on 14 cm rectangle for the pockets (seam allowances not included for everything).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfQKXU6rL9c/Xc0vs6LvcEI/AAAAAAAADcU/DHMfZR5HsxkgEOWhFd22BnDj3hfG5zLhwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20191114_143955.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfQKXU6rL9c/Xc0vs6LvcEI/AAAAAAAADcU/DHMfZR5HsxkgEOWhFd22BnDj3hfG5zLhwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20191114_143955.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
And you'll get this beauty:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-szdZ83eQ1IU/Xc0v6BFFJSI/AAAAAAAADcY/r5a7O7Ae1Ho7viAK6vntQ55oNcRg9m-DgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20191102_132345-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1327" data-original-width="1600" height="265" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-szdZ83eQ1IU/Xc0v6BFFJSI/AAAAAAAADcY/r5a7O7Ae1Ho7viAK6vntQ55oNcRg9m-DgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20191102_132345-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
No you won't unless you have this stunning yukata fabric from Hiroshima ; ) it's one of the most beautiful fabrics I have ever seen, deep emerald green bamboos with golden fireflies and crimson red details on an ink black background. And the cotton material is very soft and nice to wear of course!<br />
The other project is a rayon dress, from another old Japanese book but now I more or less master the fit for my round back and forward shoulder problems and the result is really comfortable, as opposed to when the dress would ride up to my throat and choke me while I walked!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The picture is a bit dark, the background colour is actually navy blue and the fabric is from a local shop.Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-87406342975021622002019-06-22T07:32:00.002-07:002019-06-22T07:32:24.982-07:00A very ruffled topI haven't posted in eons because I've been super busy but I finally have a little time off from work to show you the garments I managed to make during the almost 1 year since my last post ! Having grown up in the 1980's I've always loved over the top ruffled garments but I didn't dare wear some because I didn't feel like dealing with people pointing and laughing at me, which is the local way to react to anything out of the ordinary where I live^^ But I've noticed that said big ruffles are now trending even in my godforsaken place so I made myself this pink rayon blouse using a slightly modified Japanese pattern :<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fPXixFlg4mk/XQ3yJziB2KI/AAAAAAAADag/IFyYfxsenpIgl5dPgTXBN-SkNOflfqIWQCLcBGAs/s1600/20190622_102751.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fPXixFlg4mk/XQ3yJziB2KI/AAAAAAAADag/IFyYfxsenpIgl5dPgTXBN-SkNOflfqIWQCLcBGAs/s320/20190622_102751.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
It's from the second Stylish dress book, pattern K:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FJQPpAET3mc/XQ41qjp-SUI/AAAAAAAADa0/tCWMaCeBe_ALuEVQdpKs1K49VR8spCEMQCLcBGAs/s1600/StylishDressBook2-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="421" data-original-width="304" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FJQPpAET3mc/XQ41qjp-SUI/AAAAAAAADa0/tCWMaCeBe_ALuEVQdpKs1K49VR8spCEMQCLcBGAs/s320/StylishDressBook2-1.jpg" width="231" /></a></div>
<br />
It has a basic round collar and set-in sleeves but the interest comes from the ruffled parts that go all around it. You must double the width of the ruffled part and fold it under for a clean finish so I chose a thin fabric to avoid bulk. The downside is that I have to wear a camisole under the top because it's quite see-through! Of course I shortened the pattern to turn it into a top, I also split the back yoke in two parts -I'm not sure why I made that actually^^- and I slimmed down the width of the sleeves because I didn't want to have to gather them at the wrist.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4xa1tjIxE7E/XQ42pJEoUVI/AAAAAAAADbA/N7OO29g58H8z7P5tWNrez-qoUtGA7umXgCLcBGAs/s1600/20190622_102825.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4xa1tjIxE7E/XQ42pJEoUVI/AAAAAAAADbA/N7OO29g58H8z7P5tWNrez-qoUtGA7umXgCLcBGAs/s320/20190622_102825.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to show you the seam between the bodice ruffle and the sleeve ruffle because it's flawless, Japanese patterns rule:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qvhoHqJ8raw/XQ42qnfSfiI/AAAAAAAADbE/-vI_uDlr0acDRZZ9P4SjXJX_JAw61-ngACLcBGAs/s1600/20190622_102812.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qvhoHqJ8raw/XQ42qnfSfiI/AAAAAAAADbE/-vI_uDlr0acDRZZ9P4SjXJX_JAw61-ngACLcBGAs/s320/20190622_102812.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And since I made it in a bigger size than usual I thought I wouldn't have to do my back and shoulders alterations but I was wrong and if I make it again back darts it will be! I also made another Yokai Watch themed cosmetics bag with fabric and floss remnants to replace the <a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fqNbm9PC9yI/WuAwj8p5-QI/AAAAAAAADU0/8k9lFRcl4CEA49UWygsfvs6icjqT4iTbACLcBGAs/s1600/20180425_110153-1.jpg" target="_blank">Baku</a> one while I wash it:<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7lPt9GDwyJA/W261J_KiUVI/AAAAAAAADZI/kIR6OrCgacsUnrQU_ogLW8tj5C5mluAOACLcBGAs/s1600/robe%2Bgrise.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="964" data-original-width="608" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7lPt9GDwyJA/W261J_KiUVI/AAAAAAAADZI/kIR6OrCgacsUnrQU_ogLW8tj5C5mluAOACLcBGAs/s320/robe%2Bgrise.jpg" width="201" /></a></div>
<br />
I LOVE it! I bought the fabric in a local shop, it's a stretchy polyester/cotton mix, it's very soft and drapes well and above all I was drawn to its silver sheen:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-onSu_2v-G3g/W261N-jlWVI/AAAAAAAADZM/mP32Mcj56OgHmBrxJkvMVenJ-lan8207wCLcBGAs/s1600/robe%2Bgrise%2Bdetail2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="427" data-original-width="985" height="138" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-onSu_2v-G3g/W261N-jlWVI/AAAAAAAADZM/mP32Mcj56OgHmBrxJkvMVenJ-lan8207wCLcBGAs/s320/robe%2Bgrise%2Bdetail2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y_emnU13WV8/W261QNw8lUI/AAAAAAAADZQ/hzxGHy6318shZPf-sIOLVSf8Wpc41O8ZQCLcBGAs/s1600/robe%2Bgrise%2Bdetail1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="601" data-original-width="999" height="192" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y_emnU13WV8/W261QNw8lUI/AAAAAAAADZQ/hzxGHy6318shZPf-sIOLVSf8Wpc41O8ZQCLcBGAs/s320/robe%2Bgrise%2Bdetail1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
You can't really tell from the pictures but it's super shiny and metallic in real life, I've never had a glittery piece of clothing so that's a nice change from my usual cute animal/any shade of blue makes! Also I wasn't scared of working with this fabric because even though it's soft (ie you must press every single seam or it'll be a puckering mess) I now have a wonderful Janome sewing machine that tackles every project I give it, I feel like I can sew anything with it :) It's one of the cheapest machines of this brand (Facility 21) but it's a really good, sturdy one in comparison with those I used to have (a Brother and a few Singer).<br />
In my last post I also wrote about fitting alterations for some specific problems of mine: as I was getting used to wearing me made clothes I started to notice that my tops and dresses would ride up, with the front neckline getting uncomfortably close to my throat and the shoulder seams ending far behind on my back. These problems come from having a lower rounded back with forward shoulders and a hollow chest, and since it gets worse as you grow older, you won't get rid of these with a few Pilates lessons^^ So, I roamed the internet and beside being relieved to learn that I wasn't particularly deformed since many people seem to have the same problems, I found a few fitting solutions. I tried them and came up with the perfect formula for me:<br />
<br />
- I lengthen the back by 1.5 cm thanks to shoulder darts, as shown in these drawings (I cannot find the site/blog where I saw this alteration so I can't link to them but I thank them for saving my life with this technique :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xnmXHxdrzKE/W268KEvukiI/AAAAAAAADZg/R-qRduUF0aA8HJ57FJGw7uvOOdE9lMyQQCLcBGAs/s1600/Rouded%2Blower%2Bback%2Badjustment.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="232" data-original-width="833" height="89" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xnmXHxdrzKE/W268KEvukiI/AAAAAAAADZg/R-qRduUF0aA8HJ57FJGw7uvOOdE9lMyQQCLcBGAs/s320/Rouded%2Blower%2Bback%2Badjustment.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
- I move the back shoulder seam forward by 1 cm at the neckpoint and by 1.5 cm at the shoulder point, removing the same amount from the front shoulder seam and I usually remove 1 to 1.5 cm from the front neckline on the fold: <br />

Of course I also have to alter my sleeve pattern by adding 1.5 to the back and removing the same amount from the front like so:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AjMOX9RwbiU/W268N_AROoI/AAAAAAAADZo/qmFej3y9R84Dnv8J0_wwP9UnapoDO05JQCLcBGAs/s1600/Forward%2Bshoulder%2Bsleeve%2Badjustment.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="305" data-original-width="270" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AjMOX9RwbiU/W268N_AROoI/AAAAAAAADZo/qmFej3y9R84Dnv8J0_wwP9UnapoDO05JQCLcBGAs/s1600/Forward%2Bshoulder%2Bsleeve%2Badjustment.png" /></a></div>
<br />
And that's it, as I said it works perfectly for me but you may want to make a muslin if you want to try these alterations, the amounts I add/remove are quite big because my rounded back and forward shoulders are pronounced but for others even a 0.5 adjustment can make a huge difference! <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cSnhwf_7DAg/W2LI2wm0Z6I/AAAAAAAADXc/fP-nYxZmFIsnYwMguDIbAo2jqLzmiibmgCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_130215-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="991" data-original-width="1600" height="198" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cSnhwf_7DAg/W2LI2wm0Z6I/AAAAAAAADXc/fP-nYxZmFIsnYwMguDIbAo2jqLzmiibmgCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_130215-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It's 100% cotton and it's super airy yet I find it crispier than cotton veil, so on the one hand it makes otherwise simple designs look quite sophisticated but on the other hand it's seriously see-through and you must wear a camisole underneath!<br />
I blogged about my<a href="https://sewingandso.blogspot.com/2017/12/swans-top.html?m=1" target="_blank"> swans top </a>a few months ago, it was my first time working with muslin and the beginning of my love affair with this fabric :)<br />
The second garment I made using muslin is a tiny bunnies top from my first Sewing magazine:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W9dRNTV8rPo/W2LL8YQZ67I/AAAAAAAADXo/EacN2Ir9KU8NbO0bAIiNC_CFvc2WMtmlgCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_125020-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1298" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W9dRNTV8rPo/W2LL8YQZ67I/AAAAAAAADXo/EacN2Ir9KU8NbO0bAIiNC_CFvc2WMtmlgCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_125020-1.jpg" width="259" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4uWteqXLF1w/W2LL-CLTM9I/AAAAAAAADXs/IE7Gq0JpYY0zNUHra_-P6ylWx1JhlyMewCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_124952-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1145" data-original-width="1600" height="229" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4uWteqXLF1w/W2LL-CLTM9I/AAAAAAAADXs/IE7Gq0JpYY0zNUHra_-P6ylWx1JhlyMewCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_124952-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oWO9cch18ds/W2LMAtJkBVI/AAAAAAAADXw/8ZzdFQhdBS4T9VY1mPnXDqJosXCxijJbQCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_085100-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1235" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oWO9cch18ds/W2LMAtJkBVI/AAAAAAAADXw/8ZzdFQhdBS4T9VY1mPnXDqJosXCxijJbQCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_085100-1.jpg" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4tgrr46JBRQ/W2LMEy2BqCI/AAAAAAAADX0/5inrVSvNeOMkGrGq9u1NCBFA9GkGFfulACLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_085111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4tgrr46JBRQ/W2LMEy2BqCI/AAAAAAAADX0/5inrVSvNeOMkGrGq9u1NCBFA9GkGFfulACLcBGAs/s320/20180802_085111.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I changed the design of the sleeves to slimmer ones and lined the front and back yokes with off-white polycotton to add strength and a little opacity^^ and of course the print is super cute!<br />
The next top made from muslin is my big bunnies Hoya blouse:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CS2EI54u31k/W2LNVX-1N3I/AAAAAAAADYI/m_xL7HVviTkRh6v52f4YvpQkhNTefiHagCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_084426-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1158" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CS2EI54u31k/W2LNVX-1N3I/AAAAAAAADYI/m_xL7HVviTkRh6v52f4YvpQkhNTefiHagCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_084426-1.jpg" width="231" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Nr6ys8zi9Q/W2LNXvMimrI/AAAAAAAADYM/5lPsMGkI1p8EZkFXkDG8rPArOkKpSesogCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_084451.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Nr6ys8zi9Q/W2LNXvMimrI/AAAAAAAADYM/5lPsMGkI1p8EZkFXkDG8rPArOkKpSesogCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_084451.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
This time I had to line the two front pieces with polycotton but the result is not too stiff IMO, I couldn't use the bunnies fabric as a lining because the inside print would have shown on the outside!<br />
Finally I've recently completed another muslin top using the most amazing print I've ever seen (not an overstatement, as usual :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_drk2PjRTBY/W2LPLN9gnjI/AAAAAAAADYY/s5jRCK-r-LQ1OlZGadsS14xn9WKWOPdqwCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_125700-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1361" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_drk2PjRTBY/W2LPLN9gnjI/AAAAAAAADYY/s5jRCK-r-LQ1OlZGadsS14xn9WKWOPdqwCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_125700-1.jpg" width="272" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gBUuG6kZHxo/W2LPMnv3vWI/AAAAAAAADYc/IVCwxkBCnpAXpifrsPDndnYc4U_3XRQEQCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_125713.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gBUuG6kZHxo/W2LPMnv3vWI/AAAAAAAADYc/IVCwxkBCnpAXpifrsPDndnYc4U_3XRQEQCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_125713.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bU5V3a1IloQ/W2LPSFdOqPI/AAAAAAAADYg/58zxGZ4qm00WbR1UZy5lqIgqmDhQWPSJgCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_085207.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bU5V3a1IloQ/W2LPSFdOqPI/AAAAAAAADYg/58zxGZ4qm00WbR1UZy5lqIgqmDhQWPSJgCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_085207.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
How gorgeous is that?? The corally looking flowers kill me ! I used a dress pattern from this book and simply shortened the length of the front and back pieces obviously:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9NaDvAPvesI/W2LP7dqDKRI/AAAAAAAADYw/kY0SdrgPEkQtoahfboW87lVSbwgLskmwgCLcBGAs/s1600/20180802_125032-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1317" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9NaDvAPvesI/W2LP7dqDKRI/AAAAAAAADYw/kY0SdrgPEkQtoahfboW87lVSbwgLskmwgCLcBGAs/s320/20180802_125032-1.jpg" width="263" /></a></div>

<br />
I don't know if this sort of fabric can be found elsewhere but I've never seen it outside of Spotlight and certainly not in my local shops so I'll have to wait until I can travel again and fill my suitcase with it! I also plan on making the dress version of this pattern, it's so elegant :) And you may have noticed darts on the back of the tops, that's because I've been fighting to get a correct fit for my rounded back and forward shoulders, I'll post about my solutions for these problems soon.Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-72348466047995256102018-06-19T01:39:00.000-07:002018-06-19T01:41:50.072-07:00A winter top Finally temperatures have cooled down a little and it's time for long-ish sleeved garments! I made a top out of organic cotton fabric from Spotlight, I thought the print was super cute with its pinpoint trees and I love the navy background:<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div>
The pattern is from one of the first Japanese sewing books I bought 10 years ago, it has lots of different designs and the patterns are not printed but they give you drawings with the dimensions for the different sizes for you to trace:</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There are several length options and I chose the shortest one for my top, I actually shortened it a bit more, I also did a simple round back, forward shoulder and narrow thorax (lol what?) adjustment. I wish I had lengthened the sleeves because they tend to hike up my arms but apart from that it is still one of my favourite tops to wear :)</div>

First we have two Japanese style robes made out of chirimen crepe fat quarters from Daiso:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3AnrUXZNv28/Wu7b6fxrV6I/AAAAAAAADVE/wUxA9M4aFNovzNZTCb3cTWwqQ69wK2XuQCLcBGAs/s1600/20180506_112744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3AnrUXZNv28/Wu7b6fxrV6I/AAAAAAAADVE/wUxA9M4aFNovzNZTCb3cTWwqQ69wK2XuQCLcBGAs/s320/20180506_112744.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G5lRZkgMLwI/Wu7b_RqAm1I/AAAAAAAADVI/2P_PYqXjV9AuUSbqYF6tbz9A4F_56QsIgCLcBGAs/s1600/20180506_114307-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="831" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G5lRZkgMLwI/Wu7b_RqAm1I/AAAAAAAADVI/2P_PYqXjV9AuUSbqYF6tbz9A4F_56QsIgCLcBGAs/s320/20180506_114307-1.jpg" width="166" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I made two dresses with a simple, kimono-sleeved, high-waisted bodice and a gathered skirt:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first fabric is a remnant from some old apple printed quilting cotton that I used to make the exact same dress but for me^^ and for the second one I used a double gauze fat quarter from Daiso again: it's hard to see on the photo but there are adorable tiny rabbits and flowers on it and I lined the dress because it was a bit see-through. Last but not least I made her a playsuit with toucan fabric (the same as my mum's birthday dress) and a hippie chic bag with black linen, fringe trim and plastic gems:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in this but I've put the patterns for the playsuit and the dresses and for the bag, since they're quite simple to draw I used small-squared paper for the dimensions. They fit a 32 cm doll and the seam allowances are 1/2 cm. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LKGX3a7lbsI/WuAuJu_z7bI/AAAAAAAADUo/ZMKDh8Zg7vAo3ExJkNc6YZdSvQVs-9sHwCLcBGAs/s1600/20180425_110043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LKGX3a7lbsI/WuAuJu_z7bI/AAAAAAAADUo/ZMKDh8Zg7vAo3ExJkNc6YZdSvQVs-9sHwCLcBGAs/s320/20180425_110043.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
She chose a raglan sleeve peasant blouse pattern from a French sewing magazine I bought recently:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3bBk1vzyCw4/WuAsUMfG6XI/AAAAAAAADUU/D8EUKW9vyugCZiJCrOrlBX3T6JzBK7fZwCLcBGAs/s1600/20180425_111717-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1223" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3bBk1vzyCw4/WuAsUMfG6XI/AAAAAAAADUU/D8EUKW9vyugCZiJCrOrlBX3T6JzBK7fZwCLcBGAs/s320/20180425_111717-1.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8uOkhrvl-HE/WuAsbS5s6EI/AAAAAAAADUY/hlKOoriiyEk5sDv7OG54qoMLQWFLlbqgACLcBGAs/s1600/20180425_111801-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1088" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8uOkhrvl-HE/WuAsbS5s6EI/AAAAAAAADUY/hlKOoriiyEk5sDv7OG54qoMLQWFLlbqgACLcBGAs/s320/20180425_111801-1.jpg" width="217" /></a></div>
<br />
I cut a size L, shortened the length of the bodice, didn't gather the sleeves at the hem and omitted the little bow at the neckline and here's the final result:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fSkIG3vGpRE/WuAtOLPp_II/AAAAAAAADUk/5gYwCa530W8ImfMUdr_VMOaNsI_MPv3SgCEwYBhgL/s1600/20180425_105959-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1150" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fSkIG3vGpRE/WuAtOLPp_II/AAAAAAAADUk/5gYwCa530W8ImfMUdr_VMOaNsI_MPv3SgCEwYBhgL/s320/20180425_105959-1.jpg" width="230" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm always amazed at how stylish she is, she picked the perfect pattern to go with this fabric :)<br />
Now for something completely different I made myself a makeup pouch out of a scrap of white twill and I embroidered one of my favourite anime characters, <a href="http://yokaiwatch.wikia.com/wiki/Baku" target="_blank">Baku</a> from Yokai Watch to decorate it using a page from a colouring book I own (don't judge!):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fqNbm9PC9yI/WuAwj8p5-QI/AAAAAAAADU0/8k9lFRcl4CEA49UWygsfvs6icjqT4iTbACLcBGAs/s1600/20180425_110153-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1275" data-original-width="1600" height="254" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fqNbm9PC9yI/WuAwj8p5-QI/AAAAAAAADU0/8k9lFRcl4CEA49UWygsfvs6icjqT4iTbACLcBGAs/s320/20180425_110153-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Even though my embroidery skills are not exactly breathtaking I'm happy that I was able to make this because every time I see this fun little creature my mood improves^^ I didn't take a picture of the inside but it's lined with a scrap of fabric from my <a href="http://sewingandso.blogspot.com/2015/08/auntie-skirt.html?m=0" target="_blank">Auntie</a> skirt project.Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-23592071199724468792018-03-29T05:34:00.000-07:002018-03-29T05:34:24.615-07:00The gorgeous fabric topWhen I found this amazing light pink double gauze back in 2016 1) I squealed 2) I squealed a little more 3) I envisioned a big ruffled top to mirror the busy print. Indeed you can spot apples, pears, strawberries and bananas as well as birds, stars and dots on it, all of these in a variety of pastel and gold tones:<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GfMu9uL3T_c/WrtdiA97-ZI/AAAAAAAADTE/U-12iatpmZcgouUy92VlVdzifs_bHpGFwCLcBGAs/s1600/20180328_130401-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1253" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GfMu9uL3T_c/WrtdiA97-ZI/AAAAAAAADTE/U-12iatpmZcgouUy92VlVdzifs_bHpGFwCLcBGAs/s320/20180328_130401-1.jpg" width="250" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C_Lp-mI8JuA/WrtdtV_05VI/AAAAAAAADTI/r5kMBJZlmA0hES_9CRCU503xuDNJc64ewCLcBGAs/s1600/20180328_130426.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C_Lp-mI8JuA/WrtdtV_05VI/AAAAAAAADTI/r5kMBJZlmA0hES_9CRCU503xuDNJc64ewCLcBGAs/s320/20180328_130426.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
For the pattern I used a TNT top from an old Ottobre magazine and added gathered bands of fabric at the sleeves and hem for the ruffles:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W_TNvzbONoY/WrtlWhFbSZI/AAAAAAAADTc/-YBUqj_tQA4ZqKYn1viVNrasL5S1opouwCLcBGAs/s1600/20180328_130440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W_TNvzbONoY/WrtlWhFbSZI/AAAAAAAADTc/-YBUqj_tQA4ZqKYn1viVNrasL5S1opouwCLcBGAs/s320/20180328_130440.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My only concern is about my visible stitching which is extremely wonky because my machine is getting old and double gauze has a tendency to shift a little. So next time I'll work with this type of fabric I won't choose a contrasting thread to limit the damage !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PukFzexwSKQ/Wrzc9yQXt1I/AAAAAAAADTs/M16K-prWwxoHBJMPMZA3X9beeBwWKOqmQCLcBGAs/s1600/20180329_112502.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PukFzexwSKQ/Wrzc9yQXt1I/AAAAAAAADTs/M16K-prWwxoHBJMPMZA3X9beeBwWKOqmQCLcBGAs/s320/20180329_112502.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-74019896292762112272018-02-17T07:36:00.001-08:002018-02-17T07:36:33.629-08:00Two makes I've recently completed two projects I had planned for an upcoming trip, the first one is a sweater because I'm always cold in airports and planes and the other one is a tote bag because I like to have something new on holidays :)<br />
The sweater is from an old Female magazine pattern, I was hesitating between a big V neckline and a cowl one and I ended adding a big loose collar from another pattern :<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p6sswxA_750/WofwqnvK70I/AAAAAAAADR0/0aIvdgoS4BAjTUFA4nKDxqDrCGr478ZDQCLcBGAs/s1600/20180217_130305-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="977" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p6sswxA_750/WofwqnvK70I/AAAAAAAADR0/0aIvdgoS4BAjTUFA4nKDxqDrCGr478ZDQCLcBGAs/s320/20180217_130305-1.jpg" width="195" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DEPSoPtPGYA/WofwvApsKMI/AAAAAAAADR4/CJ4j9DIfLeIQ-1hgoQJJ0TxgXZR-9Pf8ACLcBGAs/s1600/20180217_130349-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="943" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DEPSoPtPGYA/WofwvApsKMI/AAAAAAAADR4/CJ4j9DIfLeIQ-1hgoQJJ0TxgXZR-9Pf8ACLcBGAs/s320/20180217_130349-1.jpg" width="188" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zrBTGPNhWUk/Wofw1f3aVgI/AAAAAAAADR8/e2XKDWAlZ9o3qEdXEG34D1Vjs4EYS_ibACLcBGAs/s1600/20180217_130451-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1325" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zrBTGPNhWUk/Wofw1f3aVgI/AAAAAAAADR8/e2XKDWAlZ9o3qEdXEG34D1Vjs4EYS_ibACLcBGAs/s320/20180217_130451-1.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<br />
I also added the bands at the wrists and bottom hem from this pattern and I wonder why I didn't just use the whole pattern instead of adding changes to the other one! I used a leopard print knit I bought in Tokyo a few years ago, it's very soft and quite warm and even though it stretches I had to gather the wrists and bottom hem before attaching the bands because there was too much difference in the lenghts. This has resulted in a blousy design that I really like:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-me6b7R96UR4/WohLvZDFW1I/AAAAAAAADSs/zpK2ciSRid0s1n-iIzwJs3qg4aJAjohswCLcBGAs/s1600/20180217_192823.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-me6b7R96UR4/WohLvZDFW1I/AAAAAAAADSs/zpK2ciSRid0s1n-iIzwJs3qg4aJAjohswCLcBGAs/s320/20180217_192823.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
For the bag I copied a basic plastic Daiso bag that I've dragged everywhere, it's made of two 21cm squares with a 12cm wide band running along three sides:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3VYW_KUGDOs/WogR_b2YghI/AAAAAAAADSU/FZdq6JcD3LAk3gl_c1y9-TT3BnKAynRvACLcBGAs/s1600/20180215_080855-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="969" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3VYW_KUGDOs/WogR_b2YghI/AAAAAAAADSU/FZdq6JcD3LAk3gl_c1y9-TT3BnKAynRvACLcBGAs/s320/20180215_080855-1.jpg" width="193" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric is a remnant of brown linen, I embroidered a cat face with green eyes, a pink nose and black whiskers and brows. The handles are brown webbing and the inside is lined with Japanese cotton printed with extra cute kitties, mice and cherries:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ntm7T4oza0g/WogS-HJtSdI/AAAAAAAADSc/gyr6ScoS708yOtCdUIVECEvzf7o-kqMZgCLcBGAs/s1600/20180217_114653.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ntm7T4oza0g/WogS-HJtSdI/AAAAAAAADSc/gyr6ScoS708yOtCdUIVECEvzf7o-kqMZgCLcBGAs/s320/20180217_114653.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I LOVE this bag, it makes me smile every time I see it and it's big enough to carry my stuff without being overwhelming IMO.Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-24422048007633704422018-01-06T21:06:00.001-08:002018-01-06T21:06:29.580-08:00Japanese kitties topWell well what do we have here? A kimono sleeved tie top in a crazy cute animal print? How unexpected :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hzqw_Rou6xU/WlGfv6fXz8I/AAAAAAAADP8/wmfLBHXYixAKkFUGdfMpVRpYLlgztKx_QCLcBGAs/s1600/20180107_074405-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1044" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hzqw_Rou6xU/WlGfv6fXz8I/AAAAAAAADP8/wmfLBHXYixAKkFUGdfMpVRpYLlgztKx_QCLcBGAs/s320/20180107_074405-1.jpg" width="208" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's the latest version of top number 6 from my beloved 2017 sewing book, this time I didn't put breast pockets but I finished the sleeves with folded bands. I used white thread for the topstitching at the front and neon yellow bias tape for the neckline.<br />
Now can we please talk about that print?? It's my absolute favorite out of all the fabrics I've bought in my life, the colours are so vibrant, there are beautiful golden flowers and those kitties!<br />

I've already talked about Dora, my black treasure of a cat but I haven't introduced my tortoise kitty/resident clown Miwa yet! We've had her since October 2016, they couldn't be any more different because she's super easy going, funny and always in a good mood whereas Do rules us all with an iron/velvet paw but I guess that's why they get on well :)</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VjFrVd31zvo/WkdVmf--TiI/AAAAAAAADPs/5JrB8QvkMCk5lpxG9JSEt9I6QYcrhMl2wCLcBGAs/s1600/20171226_105224-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1135" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VjFrVd31zvo/WkdVmf--TiI/AAAAAAAADPs/5JrB8QvkMCk5lpxG9JSEt9I6QYcrhMl2wCLcBGAs/s320/20171226_105224-1.jpg" width="226" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I found the fabric in a local shop, I think it's amazing! Cute stylish toucans on a mustard background should be a staple in all wardrobes:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PO4_FQeFmc/WkdMkRLsksI/AAAAAAAADPQ/5PhqeNglgpc1eidYK9PzEAX4ZB3PKhAtACLcBGAs/s1600/20171226_082019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PO4_FQeFmc/WkdMkRLsksI/AAAAAAAADPQ/5PhqeNglgpc1eidYK9PzEAX4ZB3PKhAtACLcBGAs/s320/20171226_082019.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
For the design I used a classic A-line dress with bust darts and added a little novelty with the sleeves from this top from my latest sewing book (the one I used to make my swans tie top):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yCn2orFb5qA/WkdNLEUHZUI/AAAAAAAADPc/2m5c3kjIuqkMqZdmteb2rPO7u69oc9TvQCLcBGAs/s1600/20171230_120729-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1010" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yCn2orFb5qA/WkdNLEUHZUI/AAAAAAAADPc/2m5c3kjIuqkMqZdmteb2rPO7u69oc9TvQCLcBGAs/s320/20171230_120729-1.jpg" width="201" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CS-kvDrF1mU/WkdNIf5u2qI/AAAAAAAADPY/G0EWoj62QxEOcCZIY_Uo6iEy3fE2f7uXgCEwYBhgL/s1600/20171226_082013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CS-kvDrF1mU/WkdNIf5u2qI/AAAAAAAADPY/G0EWoj62QxEOcCZIY_Uo6iEy3fE2f7uXgCEwYBhgL/s320/20171226_082013.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I didn't have matching thread I hand stitched everything with off white thread so that it wouldn't show and I finished the neckline and armholes with black bias tape. My mum says she loves it and that it's nice to wear so mission accomplished for this time :)Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-6387086108074286512017-12-23T02:04:00.000-08:002017-12-23T02:04:20.008-08:00Kitty bag top In an attempt to break from my usual top style (ie super plain kimono sleeves and round neckline) I made a blouse/polo hybrid from a Japanese sewing magazine:<br />

So first I'm totally aware that my fabric is very kitsch, the cat faces are actually bags, there are roses and the greyish background is very 90's grandma but I find it adorable! Regarding the pattern I didn't put the long sleeves and opted for simple folded bands instead. Also the original design had a square bottom which is a feature I can't stand so I went with a regular curved hem. And I didnt take a picture of it but I replaced the back gathers with a pleat to minimize the volume of the garment. It's a cool pattern IMO, I like it but I have a problem with how the collar stands so if I make it again I'm not sure I'll keep it.Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-78672015827104793632017-12-14T09:25:00.002-08:002017-12-14T09:25:44.107-08:00Japanese R dress take 2 This is the second time I've made a dress using this pattern, it's a great design with the heart shaped detail on the bust, the slit at the back of the neckline and the general A line of the silhouette.<br />
<br />

<br />
I slightly changed the original design because the skirt portions under the bust and at the back had gathers and I eliminated them for a slimmer look :) the fabrics are cotton from a local shop, plain white for the upper parts and red with white sprinkles for the rest. This light dress is perfect for summer which arrived super late this year but is now burning us all!Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-64189647725382867932017-12-07T01:38:00.001-08:002017-12-07T01:39:25.501-08:00Swans top I made a top from a new Japanese book, it's a simple design with short kimono sleeves but it ties at the front, which brings much needed novelty to my wardrobe :)<br />
<br />

<br />
The fabric is from Spotlight, it's some polycotton veil, super light and nice to wear. I added mock pockets on the bust because the fabric is see through and I topstitched everything with white thread. I LOVE that print the swans are so graceful and cute! There are other great patterns in this book so I will probably be posting about other makes soon!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zb7odltxrkY/WDAaApak1_I/AAAAAAAADL0/nkF4ov0EA3cLt_eWtudKxWBleZu8wRarwCLcB/s1600/DSCN6138.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zb7odltxrkY/WDAaApak1_I/AAAAAAAADL0/nkF4ov0EA3cLt_eWtudKxWBleZu8wRarwCLcB/s320/DSCN6138.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I think it's the first time I've taken pics of this particular pattern but I've made a ton of these, it's such a cool and comfortable design! I love the different lengths at the front and the back and the A-shaped bodice. Normally the sleeves are longer but it is summer now and the shorter the better :) Also there were huge breast pockets on the original version but I didn't put them here because the print is so busy it wouldn't have shown much. And I had to add a front seam because I didn't have enough fabric to cut on the fold:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IjPMBpDwHck/WDAaBrPP3bI/AAAAAAAADL4/jY_0__zNwzg7L39AXwNva1WfiERstfmLQCLcB/s1600/DSCN6139.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IjPMBpDwHck/WDAaBrPP3bI/AAAAAAAADL4/jY_0__zNwzg7L39AXwNva1WfiERstfmLQCLcB/s320/DSCN6139.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"> Nice topstitching if I may say so myself!</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lJ_ZewWhO5M/WDAZ_7hHoiI/AAAAAAAADLw/2h1QDA2pd1MlX8ALWMAUEkmsz_9KuGWtACLcB/s1600/DSCN6133.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lJ_ZewWhO5M/WDAZ_7hHoiI/AAAAAAAADLw/2h1QDA2pd1MlX8ALWMAUEkmsz_9KuGWtACLcB/s320/DSCN6133.JPG" width="194" /></a></div>
<br />
That's my typical summer outfit, a fun, loose top and shorts or a half circle skirt, which brings me to the second part of this post...<br />
... Two Saturdays ago I was invited to a wedding so I made a pistachio green crepe cropped blouse to go with a navy linen Cascade skirt:<br />

<br />
So yes, you can tell I'm really into that cropped, hi-lo silhouette aka I get into trends eons after everyone else^^ I'm quite happy with the wedding blouse because the fabric moved a lot and I was surprised I managed to make a neat enough collar as well as a decent button band. But I didn't push my luck and used bias tape for the armholes and hem because I think it's definitely the easiest way of getting an even finish!Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-86883527426124346582016-10-31T10:39:00.000-07:002016-10-31T20:28:44.472-07:00It's Halloween time!As a quick update from my previous post please replace all occurences of "broderie anglaise" with "eyelet", how silly of me! Lol I remembered the correct word days later and yes I'm ashamed that I could forget it in the first place :) Anyway, today is the best day of the year aka Halloween, I'm eating chocolates, reading some <a href="https://www.amazon.com/True-Singapore-Ghost-Stories-Book/dp/9810013469" target="_blank">True Singapore Ghost Stories</a> and naturally I have made a little something to celebrate:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rweNui0PmDQ/WBd8682-NMI/AAAAAAAADLQ/kTGFXHMZqVEehbEu65Zhp82_sjBMai9mQCLcB/s1600/DSCN6104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rweNui0PmDQ/WBd8682-NMI/AAAAAAAADLQ/kTGFXHMZqVEehbEu65Zhp82_sjBMai9mQCLcB/s320/DSCN6104.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Complete with fluffy black cat tail!</span> </div>
<br />
So I recycled an old me-made top for this project, the band and pocket used to be blue and there wasn't any cute cat peeking! The original garment was so worn out (yellowed neckline, loosen seam lines...) because I loved it and wore it a lot that I was about to throw it away, so why not give it a nice final makeover before getting rid of it? I simply replaced the blue parts with black ones, drew a cat with fabric pencils (I copied it from the manga <a href="http://www.manga-news.com/index.php/manga/Plum-un-amour-de-chat/vol-1" target="_blank">Plum</a>, this character is called Princess and is beyond cute) and finished everything with orange fabric because Halloween:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Also, as usual I made a garment for my mum's birthday, this year it's a green crepe cotton dress with a me-made cross stitch detail: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8Evxinwy_OI/WBd9I-7OsPI/AAAAAAAADLg/nEbWqa5ozscZQtGI5bUjpHSZovHlbq-fwCLcB/s1600/DSCN6109.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8Evxinwy_OI/WBd9I-7OsPI/AAAAAAAADLg/nEbWqa5ozscZQtGI5bUjpHSZovHlbq-fwCLcB/s320/DSCN6109.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
Hope you have a great celebration too!Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-56175940358504056962016-10-03T02:10:00.002-07:002016-10-03T02:10:37.724-07:00I made a dressI love broderie anglaise and I'd wanted a black broderie dress for a while but I knew I couldn't wear something fully lined here in Reunion, so I settled for a mixed fabric garment instead. I went for broderie ruffles with a plain poplin shell:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--WcpV1SQNTk/V_IcE7Mf-7I/AAAAAAAADK4/tEKBiyb4lZ477o3vWWpoytdvRqufgABRQCLcB/s1600/DSCN6029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--WcpV1SQNTk/V_IcE7Mf-7I/AAAAAAAADK4/tEKBiyb4lZ477o3vWWpoytdvRqufgABRQCLcB/s320/DSCN6029.JPG" width="206" /></a></div>
<br />
I bought the black broderie in Singapore because it was super cute and the quality was very good, and the poplin is from a local shop. I used an old Ottobre pattern that I slightly altered, I think the original dress had tucks instead of gathering and puff sleeves or something like that, and of course I added ruffles that I finished by encasing the raw hem in folded narrow bias tape:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E5wMf9PTkJo/V_IcF6SBFiI/AAAAAAAADK8/Mx3BHYQUIR4zTHy4TrvuJUZFSaGaq4bjACLcB/s1600/DSCN6032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E5wMf9PTkJo/V_IcF6SBFiI/AAAAAAAADK8/Mx3BHYQUIR4zTHy4TrvuJUZFSaGaq4bjACLcB/s320/DSCN6032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7TgiPK-7PGI/V_IcHnTxM9I/AAAAAAAADLA/Vv_Pm2aG57kqs_NylYSRDsPcSNcKf-KvgCLcB/s1600/DSCN6035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7TgiPK-7PGI/V_IcHnTxM9I/AAAAAAAADLA/Vv_Pm2aG57kqs_NylYSRDsPcSNcKf-KvgCLcB/s320/DSCN6035.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I like my dress because it's really nice to wear, I have my broderie details and even though it's black I don't think I look overdressed in it, or do I^^?Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-80868727301924049552016-07-17T00:34:00.000-07:002016-07-17T00:35:30.674-07:00Holiday bagI know it's been a long time since I last posted something on this blog but life got in the way and I didn't have the time or will for documenting my makes. When I say "life" I mean an asshole employer from hell but thank God I was able to quit and now I have peace of mind as well as plenty of time to post about sewing!<br />
I'll go on a trip soon and I wanted to bring something new so I made a tote bag using remnants from an awesome border print, double gauze fabric that my mum had brought back from Japan. It has multicoloured rabbits playing instruments, jewels and psychedelic flowers, ie the basics of any correct print IMO^^:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1koWbG7pFLQ/V4ssBQh_yBI/AAAAAAAADKA/6wYdwlX2URsSYiytZaPV8Kwo9DCNDOSfgCLcB/s1600/DSCN6004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1koWbG7pFLQ/V4ssBQh_yBI/AAAAAAAADKA/6wYdwlX2URsSYiytZaPV8Kwo9DCNDOSfgCLcB/s320/DSCN6004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The border prints were slightly different on each side of the fabric and because I loved both of them the bag has two different sides :) Since the fabric was very thin I interfaced it with some beige polycotton remnant, treating the two layers as one when sewing and used stiff, sturdy denim for the lining, so that the bag would hold itself nicely:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XyTn-u0zc98/V4stUxt12rI/AAAAAAAADKI/x36ZWnTUGNIRKP2-enUEOpHLyIpXz5OdwCLcB/s1600/DSCN6007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XyTn-u0zc98/V4stUxt12rI/AAAAAAAADKI/x36ZWnTUGNIRKP2-enUEOpHLyIpXz5OdwCLcB/s320/DSCN6007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TB8JMmu6TpU/V4stV0zz5sI/AAAAAAAADKM/HyTt-k1tGGUhGMT-1e3X-JML0ZouF5UVACLcB/s1600/DSCN6008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TB8JMmu6TpU/V4stV0zz5sI/AAAAAAAADKM/HyTt-k1tGGUhGMT-1e3X-JML0ZouF5UVACLcB/s320/DSCN6008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I only had black webbing for the straps so I covered them with purple polycotton to match the fabric, the finished bag has a pocket inside and it closes with a magnetic snap:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fneaQ77ChW8/V4sutg-Yx4I/AAAAAAAADKY/WMbHpHdoYEQwXJ28-tfEW_D8ODZUB4q4ACLcB/s1600/DSCN6017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fneaQ77ChW8/V4sutg-Yx4I/AAAAAAAADKY/WMbHpHdoYEQwXJ28-tfEW_D8ODZUB4q4ACLcB/s320/DSCN6017.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I love it, it's super cute and practical, not too big and neutral enough that I can use it with all the outfits I have planned!Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-16859589741953953082015-12-10T01:24:00.001-08:002015-12-10T01:24:45.443-08:00Fuji san summer dressI love novelty prints and Japan so when I came across this cute, colorful print of mount Fuji complete with its tiny Hokusai wave and pine trees I went nuts!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NBEYhU73l00/VmlBKyUAjMI/AAAAAAAADJU/nVec4D0VjOg/s1600/DSCN5886.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NBEYhU73l00/VmlBKyUAjMI/AAAAAAAADJU/nVec4D0VjOg/s320/DSCN5886.JPG" width="320" /></a> </div>
<br />
I found it in a shop at People's Park Complex in Singapore and as if the fabric wasn't adorable enough, one of the sales assistants was wearing a beautiful 3/4 sleeved top made with it: it looked amazing and I could immediately picture the same top lengthened in a babydoll dress for meeee^^<br />
Unfortunately it's so hot where I live that in the end I had to settle for short sleeves but I'm still very happy with my dress:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GQBHilC_j7s/VmlBgc-zKeI/AAAAAAAADJc/8C-4Mg9w2M4/s1600/DSCN5885.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GQBHilC_j7s/VmlBgc-zKeI/AAAAAAAADJc/8C-4Mg9w2M4/s320/DSCN5885.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zxo5KmgKIpE/VmlBidpXL5I/AAAAAAAADJk/IlpEGs1ZRdc/s1600/DSCN5889.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zxo5KmgKIpE/VmlBidpXL5I/AAAAAAAADJk/IlpEGs1ZRdc/s320/DSCN5889.JPG" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
As usual I finished the neckline and sleeves with bias tape, the hem is simply folded and machine-stitched and I added pockets, but since they're boring white cotton I didn't take a photo of them!<br />
<br />Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-10960459987787973222015-11-07T02:24:00.002-08:002015-11-07T02:24:22.109-08:00Second Grainline AlderI'm in love with this pattern! Here's my latest version in striped cotton from a local shop:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cbWP80JaacI/Vj3Nk7i2YDI/AAAAAAAADI8/fF6WB_UHnlI/s1600/DSCN5862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cbWP80JaacI/Vj3Nk7i2YDI/AAAAAAAADI8/fF6WB_UHnlI/s400/DSCN5862.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
About the fit, I forgot to mention before that I cut the size 18 length because it would have been super short for me otherwise. I made a simple folded hem and finished the armholes with bias tape. Also I made self-covered buttons with a Daiso kit and, to conclude, even Dora likes it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-19577129112587592232015-11-02T19:27:00.001-08:002015-11-07T03:38:18.008-08:00First Grainline AlderAfter hesitating a good 6 months -I was afraid about the fit, having never worked with a Grainline pattern- I finally gave in and bought the Alder shirtdress PDF and there's no going back! This dress is everything I love, it's cool, girly, comfortable and flattering.<br />
View A looks great but for the moment my favourite version is view B with its cute gathered skirt, I made my first one out of vintage fabric found in a local shop:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3EYuYPyXkpg/VjgkQ4o8FhI/AAAAAAAADIU/2IAuEozXsYo/s1600/DSCN5859.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3EYuYPyXkpg/VjgkQ4o8FhI/AAAAAAAADIU/2IAuEozXsYo/s400/DSCN5859.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PIpBPzzzT58/VjgkRejEDDI/AAAAAAAADIY/spFTc9vr-yY/s1600/DSCN5860.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PIpBPzzzT58/VjgkRejEDDI/AAAAAAAADIY/spFTc9vr-yY/s400/DSCN5860.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The width was only 35" which is a rare find here in Reunion but I had 4 yards so it was plenty enough for the dress. I'd say the print is cute yet groovy :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-egzUFkezTd0/VjgkSWlCzFI/AAAAAAAADIk/gRyM_MX6muc/s1600/DSCN5857.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-egzUFkezTd0/VjgkSWlCzFI/AAAAAAAADIk/gRyM_MX6muc/s400/DSCN5857.JPG" width="307" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MY-QxKB_aVc/VjgkTrSwOxI/AAAAAAAADIs/JxMCE6gJ1sA/s1600/DSCN5856.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MY-QxKB_aVc/VjgkTrSwOxI/AAAAAAAADIs/JxMCE6gJ1sA/s400/DSCN5856.JPG" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
So about the fit, I chose size 6 based on the finished measurements and it's perfect, I only did a minor sway back adjustement by remonving a 1/2" curve from the back piece. <br />
I lengthened the skirt portion by 2" too but it was useless and I chopped it off before hemming with some bias tape.<br />
Also I was lazy and didn't do the attached button band on the right, it's simply folded twice as on the left side and since my fabric was too narrow I couldn't cut the back skirt on the fold and had to cut two pieces but with the busy print you can't really tell.<br />
Of course I'm already making another one, I hope I can finish it quickly because with summer kicking in it's the best kind of dress to wear!Cecilihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02430059556249427229noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467448102311025549.post-90035786608228241182015-10-31T06:31:00.002-07:002015-11-07T03:38:57.754-08:00Happy Halloween!This year's outfit is not very glamourous but it is the intention that counts, right^^? In honour of my favorite celebration I wore an appliqued t-shirt featuring a cute, silly ghost:<br />

I copied it from a small picture in a Japanese book, the body and tongue are cotton fabric and all the black details are embroidered.<br />
On a positive note I'm wearing these atrocious jeans and shoes because I'm now an almost full time vet assistant! Lucky me gets to clean all sorts of animals' various, hem, <i>productions</i> and it's hard to do that in a skirt. I sound sarcastic but I'm super happy to have this job, as I've already said I'm fond of animals so getting to be with them several hours everyday is wonderful :)<br />

Also as usual I made something for my mum's birthday, even though she chose the fabric a few months ago she had completely forgotten about it so it was a nice surprise for her. I get my love of all things cute from her I guess:<br />
