A pretty dress

That's all I was aiming for! So I picked a spring flower print cotton, some white daisy trim and my beloved vintage Advance pattern and here's what I got:

Yep, my garden is a mess

It's the same pattern as the Christmas dress I showed you earlier in the month, I like that the bodice is cut on the bias -it definitely gives ease- and the skirt has 12 darted panels which make it hang quite neatly IMO. I didn't put the neckline ties because this simple detail pushed the dress into little girl territory and instead I prefered to emphasize the front yoke with the daisy trim. I've tried to bust my stash notion recently so I'm putting trims, ric rac and appliqués on everything^^.

My cute shirt

Hello friends! As you may know I'm fond of Japanese fashion, the super feminine and cute sort with tons of lace, pearls, bows, candy colors... Well I've fallen completely in love with the latest Dior collection that was shown in Shangai a few weeks ago:

Amazing, right^^?! The last outfit especially has been haunting my dreams ever since I first saw it :) What's a seamstress to do then? Of course I couldn't recreate such a work of art -not to mention pulling off the entire outfit which would make me look like a giant pastry- but I can at least make a few pieces inspired by it! Proudly introducing the first in a series of slightly Dior related garments, my Simple Yet Cute White Shirt!

I'm sure you recognize it! It's the vintage Advance pattern I've already used for a peach dress and a temari blouse. I've drafted a quick peplum to lengthen the top and that was it. I didn't put buttons but snaps because I plan to wear it tucked inside skirts or with fabric belts so I needed the front to be as flat as possible. I must admit that it's a tiny bit tight, hum I've been eating and drinking too much lately^^!

As I wanted to have a really glamourous, girly piece I finished the yoke and sleeves' facings as well as the hem with lace. That's it for today, I have two skirts in making, I hope they turn out good and I can show you them soon! Have a lovely weekend, see you!

Vintage 50's dress

I'm quite happy to show you the vintage Advanced dress I sewed this week! I loved the design the second I saw it: love the pleated bodice with the ties detail, love the big skirt with darts and loooove the front closure (zippers are quick to sew!). The instructions are clear and easy, I only had to slightly change the order of the final steps because I used an invisible zipper.

Now for what I don't like that much about the dress: I used tangerine poplin to make it because with the current temperatures it's impossible to wear heavier fabrics. So far so good, right? Well have a look at that:


The fabric wrinkles horribly because of the zigzags I used to finish the edges! It's too thin!!! I had just ironed it so it's not accidental :( I still want to wear my dress because I really like it, the shape and the colour are so nice. I thought a petticoat could improve the situation, alas:



Well I guess I'll wait for my serger to arrive (yeeeees^^) and make another one, with a more suited fabric. A shot of the anorexic petticoat:
