One-of-a-kind or plain weird?

You tell me :D So on Tuesday I fell in love with some red fabric which I thought had a fabulous print: it was cheerful, vivid and reminded me of one of my favourite childhood characters, Mafalda. I knew it was kids' fabric but I liked it so much I broke the stash bustin pledge and bought it a few days later. Indeed it had come to the point where I laid awaken at night thinking how good this fabric would look if it were a dirndl skirt -don't judge^^!
Anyway I sewed the skirt and wanted to wear it today but all of a sudden I got shy and thought maybe it was too much. I'm usually not a self-conscious person and I've probably worn equally strange outfits but I really have a doubt this time. I need your opinion! Is this skirt inappropriate?

Close-up of the print, I know they're singing but they don't look as happy as in my memory...

Edit: Oh my, thank you so much for your comments, your opinions definitely convinced me! I followed your advice and actually wore the skirt in public! No one threw me stones, no kid started crying and no dog chased me so I'd say it was a success^^! I have a little remaining scrap of this fabric and I'm using it for a giveaway, I'll tell you more soon! Thanks again :)

  5. To me the skirt is absolutelly amazing, so fun looking. The only thing i need in the outfit is a belt - small or a bit wider.
Oh, and as I don't know much about those characters, I thought they are scared at first after seeing the print.

  7. Are you kidding me? The skirt is fabulous. Fun, fresh and so feminine. I love it. I like the way you styled it with black blouse and pumps, so it doesn't look juvenile. Wear it with confidence. Lovely work.

  8. I guess it would depend what you're wearing it too. For a weekend or doing errands sort of thing I think it would be awesome! But it's not really the sort of thing to wear to work... I hope that ramble made sense haha!

I think this is really cute and you should definitely wear it

  9. In my opinion: Only a little bit weird and therefore nicely one-of-a-kind. Combine it with a simple blouse and an austere cardigan or something and wear it :)

  12. A couple of years ago I made a summer top with marching ponies on, and while it has made it out of the house on numerous occasions, I always feel a bit self-conscious. But I like it, and even though I think the print would look better on someone 25-30 years younger(!) I still wear it. I think your skirt is fun and individual, and I love the colour. If I walked past you in the street, I would definitely admire your skirt!
