Sew along: Japanese top

Hello, how's everyone today? I've been thinking about this for some time now, especially after receiving so many positive reactions regarding the Japanese tops I've posted on the MMM flickr account and so, today I'm asking you^^: would you be interested in a sew-along of a Japanese top? Here's a link to free patterns by a designer whom you may have heard about, Naomi Ito. Her brand is Nani Iro and she makes beautiful, vividly coloured fabrics. Just click on the pictures or on the blue tabs above on the kokka site and you'll find a choice of free patterns for women, kids and men's clothes and for accessories. If you want to do this sew-along leave me a comment and I'll organise it! See you :)

  1. Yes, yes, yes please...i keep admiring the items you've made from japanese designs but haven't had the confidence to try one yet...a sew-along would be a great way to get me started - so count me in! (Hello by the way...sorry haven't posted sooner but really like your blog).

  2. Thanks for your message - Hope you've had a good day.
it's payday for me on friday which means i can get to purchase some material for the sew-along. I'm happy to start anytime after Friday. Thanks for still doing it - even though it might only be me. (and it'll be my very first sew-along).

  3. Wow, sounds like a real challenge, count me it! There's some very pretty designs that look nice and cool for summer. So, I take it there's no sewing instructions? I normally ignore those anyhow with the (at times mistaken) belief that I know better anyway!

  4. The fact that the "instructions" are actually little drawings makes it easier than deciphering Burda's litany^^ Phil and Zoe I was thinking that we could start on Sunday? What about the chosen design, which one would you like to sew?

  7. Hi Cecili, sorry for slightly delayed response, yes am on board with the pattern (couldn't make up my mind which of the tops i wanted to make, so glad you suggested one). Haven't bought material yet (i went for a long run yesterday that wiped me out for the rest of the day and didn't quite make it to the fabric shop, but I have some in my stash that might work...

AHHHH! they are all so amazing!

Ohh! I just had an idea. Maybe we could try and make one a month?! Starting with the one you chose?

I hope you don't mind, I guess I should have asked you first, but there was a discussion thread on the Me-Made-May flickr group and some ladies were talking about a sew-along, so I mentioned your idea. So, maybe we should start in a few days or a weeks time in case there are others who would like to join in? I'm also spending today struggling with a hangover and trying to finish one final me-made item to wear tomorrow as the last day of Me-Made-May so can't really start on it today, sorry! This sew-along is going to be lots of fun, you're a genius and very sweet sharing this awesome treasure-mine of a resource!

  10. Your sew-along sounds like a great idea; I've been eyeing these japanese patterns but too scared to even think of trying one! I'm not sure if I'll sew along, my sewing time is a bit unpredictable, but I'll be watching (and learning!).
