Another Macaron success

I told you I would make another one! This dress is so flattering and easy to make, I can't get enough. For today's version I used a wide yard of super soft, flowery rayon -I paid €12 for it so it'd better be great- and a remnant of black swiss dot polycotton. I changed the sweetheart neckline for a simple curve and I didn't add the sleeves:

These are my big bones showing under the yoke, there aren't any pleats there!

I like that this design is the perfect showcase for busy prints and that it manages to give me an hourglass figure! And since you may have noticed that I'm into my girly phase I'm planning a terribly romantic one with lilac pansies :)

A cute, surprise Macaron

Seriously that dress happened out of nowhere, 1.5 yard of adorable quilting cotton were waiting in my stash since last year and even though I loved it I couldn't decide on a suitable use for it: was I going to make my usual top, a babydoll nightie or a Japanese mini dress with it?

Using it to make something to wear to bed seemed like a waste, a top would be sure to get a lot of wear but the fabric felt a bit too heavy for a loose shape so a dress was definitely the best option. But here again I had to choose a pattern with enough definition and that didn't require a lot of fabric since I didn't have much.
So one evening I was browsing through pics of Dora when she was a baby -OMG she was the cutest kitten evah- when I saw this:

My sweet Lolita Macarooooon (and my froggy feet)!!! I had totally forgotten about it but now I wanted to make one immediately! I grabbed the quilting cotton, some white poplin, I traced a size 4 because I thought it would help solving silly fitting issues I had had with the previous size 6 ones and tadaaa:

I could have worked on my swayback problem but with the curves seams I wasn't sure what to do.

Such a nice dress you even get a useless side shot!

This garment has everything I love: childish fabric, yellow and pastel colours, a tiny bust with a heart-shaped detail and a flattering, comfortable skirt. And look at that side seam matching:

Should I worry that I want to make at least 3 other ones? I also feel like trying a variation with a maxi skirt out of some amazing rayon.

Me-Made-May 2013 week one recap

Yes, it's that time of the year again and I'm so happy to be part of it! This year I've promised I would go until the end of the challenge so bear with me please^^
So, on 01st I wore a white broderie anglaise dress made from a 70's pattern, it used to be longer and looked a bit dull so I shortened it and tadaaa:

On 02nd a new skirt made from a 70's pattern in super nice navy linen:

On 03rd the same skirt worn with a scowl and a brushed cotton shirt made a few years ago from a Female pattern:

On 04th my first Macaron dress, it was supposed to be a muslin but it's become one of my favourite garments:

On 05th a self-drafted sack dress in navy bedsheet with a tiny plastic elephant brooch:

On 06th a self-drafted loose top in mustard cotton veil (the secret is the top actually has a contrasting purple band at the hem but you can't see it since it's tucked^^) and an eight-gored skirt made with a 70's pattern in fruity cotton:

On 07th a meh chambray skirt from a Simplicity pattern, I have already taken it apart and remade it twice because it was too big and unflattering but it's still not working well. I wore it anyway but I looked horrible in the pics^^ so here's the skirt:

My lolita Macaron

As much as I LOVE lolita fashion I'm definitely not a costume-y person so I'd rather incorporate details from this trend into my everyday garments than step outside in a crinoline dress and pink teddy bear fur coat -even though that sounds plain awesome :)
I already did the anime Victorian black and white stripes thing with this dress and now I've tried my hand at typical lolita fabric with some sweeeeeet cotton from Sevenberry and Colette patterns' Macaron:

My photoshoot settings are getting more and more glamourous I swear!

Tiny dots and flowers on a white background that must be my favouritest print ever and then you have this starry peach night, romantic windows, STRIPES! and more flowers, seriously what's not to love?
Regarding the black hairy wide-eyed creature trying to eat my finger that I'm holding in the first pic, her name's Dora and I got her 3 weeks ago because my beloved, adored, wonderful, best-cat-in-the-world Luna passed away on 23 December and I'd been inconsolable ever since -actually I'm still losing my hair from the shock!

These two couldn't be more different however and Dora is such a bundle of energy that I may switch to losing my hair from the exhaustion^^
